City of Liverpool FC are delighted to announce that goalkeeper Theo Roberts has committed to the club for the 2021-22 season.
The 22-year-old stopper started his career at Wigan Athletic before spells with Chester, Buxton, Atherton Collieries, Mossley and Curzon Ashton. During his time at Buxton, Roberts particularly impressed and his performances earned him a place in the 2018-19 NPL Premier Division team of the season.
The highly-rated custodian joined the Purps from National League side Curzon Ashton in October 2020 and was an important player for Michael Ellison’s side, making the number one jersey his own. Roberts featured in five matches before the season ended due to the pandemic, helping the Purps to three wins and keeping two clean sheets.
Roberts was a key player during our FA Trophy run, putting in fine performances in victories against two of his former teams, as the Purps shocked Atherton Collieries and Buxton on the road.
Michael Ellison is pleased to retain an important player, explaining, “Theo has been excellent for us since he walked through the door.”
“He put in some excellent performances in the decent FA Trophy run we had before the season came to an end, and again it was an easy conversation about him staying… 30 seconds.”
“He’s a top lad on and of the pitch and I think we will see the best of him this season after a full pre season with us.”
