COLFC V MORPETH TOWN
FA CUP 1ST QUALIFYING ROUND
TUESDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER 19:45 KO
Due to local lockdown restrictions coming into force we are returning to a Phase 1 capacity of 200 for the Morpeth Town game.
In order for non-league football to be back playing regularly we have new rules we have to adhere to concerning Covid-19. Capacity is limited to 200 and it is an ALL TICKET MATCH. If you havent bought a ticket online please don’t turn up as you will be refused entry.
Please be respectful of our volunteers who will be trying to ensure people stick to the guidelines. It is important for everyone’s health that these are adhered to particularly as there has been a rise in cases recently and so we can all keep watching the Purps in as safe an environment as possible.
As per previous club communications, there will be a one way system in place around the ground, and temperature checking will take place at the turnstiles. It is compulsory for all supporters attending the match to adhere to social distancing and attendees must also wear a face mask, unless they have a medical exemption.
City of Liverpool began their league campaign with a 4-2 home defeat to Marske United on Saturday. 3-0 down at one stage they fought back to 3-2 through a Nathan Burke penalty and a 25 yard Jack Hazlehurst free-kick. Marske however made sure of the victory by adding a fourth goal in the last few minutes.
Last season in the 1st Qualifying round we took Warrington Town to a replay after a 2-2 draw away at Cantilever Park. A spectacular Jack Hazlehurst brace (He does love an FA Cup goal!) put us within touching distance of the next round before a Warrington equaliser deep into injury time.
The tie went to a replay which unfortunately proved a step too far as we lost 4-0, with new Purps signing Tony Gray on the scoresheet for the Yellows that night. Notably that night we lost centre back Danny Dalton to a season ending injury after only 30 seconds. Its great to see him working his way back to full fitness during pre-season.
Morpeth Town are a Step 3 club, playing 1 league higher than the Purps in the Northern Premier Division. Based in Northumberland, they have had recent success in FA competitions winning the FA Vase at Wembley in 2016. Last season they reached the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup before losing 1-0 to Nantwich Town.
Before the null and void Morpeth where 9th in the Northern Premier Division. However they were looking to make a push for the playoffs as they were only 5 points adrift but with an incredible 7 games in hand.
The Highwaymen officially began their league campaign on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at home against Grantham Town. The fixture against City of Liverpool will be their second match of the season.
This is the first meeting between City of Liverpool and Morpeth Town.
