GLOSSOP NE VS CITY OF LIVERPOOL

FA CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND

SATURDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 3PM KO

It’s been a long road to get here but 6 months after the 2019/2020 season was officially declared null and void due to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Purps are back playing competitive fixtures. This weekend the new season officially starts for us and there is no better competition to begin the season than the FA Cup.

Craig Robinson has a new look squad at his disposal, with a number of eye catching signings including the veteran striker Tony Gray, Nathan Burke, Louis Corrigan and James Yates. He has also further boosted his attacking options by bringing back Craig Cairns to the club. Jordan Barrow, Stephen Rigby and Dominic Reid are also new faces to have impressed in pre-season.

Glossop North End will be our first opponents of the new season.  They are also members of the Northern Premier League however they play in the South/East Division as opposed to ourselves in the North/West Division.

This will be the 3rd time we have faced Glossop with the previous fixtures also being in the FA Cup.  Back in August 2018 when the Purps were operating at Step 5 against Step 4 opponents, a twisting and turning Jack Hazlehurst equaliser earned a 1-1 draw at home setting up a replay at Surrey Street.

The replay was a back and forth affair. Twice Glossop took the lead and twice the Purps got back into the game through John McGrath and again Jack Hazlehurst. The tie went into extra time and less than a minute in Dave Forbes picked the defender’s pocket and fired home the winner.
