We have been made aware of an FA investigation into the club’s recent FA Trophy fixture, away to Atherton Collieries, played on Wednesday 4th November.

Ahead of the game several bookmakers had COLFC listed at prices ranging from 33-1 to 50-1 to win the match outright. As a club, we thought that this was clearly a computer malfunction or some other type of error.

Naturally, in a “two-horse race” odds of that size will attract betting and we assume, given the outrageously large odds, that lots of our supporters and many other people risked a small bet on the outcome of the game.

However, all of our club directors, staff and playing squad, together with everybody else involved in Non-League football, are aware that they are not allowed to bet on football and absolutely not to bet on matches in which they are participating.

On the night, COLFC were worthy 0 – 3 winners in a very competitive game between opponents who are both proud and successful football clubs. Indeed, the previous meeting between the clubs was the NWCFL Champions Challenge Cup Final in 2017 in which we were successful, after both clubs had enjoyed trophy winning seasons and both clubs have gone to gain more silverware since.

City of Liverpool FC will be co-operating fully with the FA investigation.
