FA Trophy Match Postponed

City of Liverpool FC Vs Cleethorpes Town

Saturday 17th October 2020, 3pm, Berry Street Garage Stadium, L30 1NY

MATCH POSTPONED

Following detailed communication between City of Liverpool FC, Cleethorpes Town FC, Sefton Council and the Football Association, the club received confirmation this afternoon that this fixture would take place as scheduled.

Department for Digital, Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) guidance is that semi-professional players are permitted to travel into and out of Tier 3 areas for the purposes of fulfilling National League System or FA Competition fixtures. Therefore, The FA’s view was that this match should be played as scheduled, unless Sefton Council determined that it should not be played (which Sefton Council has not done).

Further to this, The FA stipulated that away supporters should not be permitted to attend this match and, following further discussion with Sefton Council, City of Liverpool FC agreed that people resident outside of the Liverpool City Region Tier 3 area would also not be permitted to attend this match.

Having considered this guidance, Cleethorpes Town FC has taken the decision not to travel to Merseyside for the match and will, therefore, forfeit the tie.

Supporters who have purchased tickets for this match will be refunded via Skiddle.

With regard to future fixtures, the guidance is such that supporters who are resident within the Liverpool City Region Tier 3 area should not travel to matches taking place outside of the City Region. For clarification, the Liverpool City Region comprises the following council areas:

Liverpool

Sefton

Knowsley

Wirral

Halton

St Helens

We are sorry that Saturday’s match will not take place and that supporters will no longer be able to travel to matches outside of the Liverpool City Region. However, public health and the wellbeing of each and every one of us is paramount and City of Liverpool FC will continue to work alongside local public health officials to ensure our community is as safe as possible during this crisis.

Thank you for you support and Up The Purps.

SPECTATOR GUIDANCE

FA Trophy

City of Liverpool FC Vs Cleethorpes Town

Saturday 17th October 2020, 3pm, Berry Street Garage Stadium, L30 1NY

City of Liverpool FC has now held three home fixtures that have been organised in accordance with guidance from the FA for the “Limited Return Of Spectators For Clubs At Steps 3-6” and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport “Return to Recreational Team Sport Framework”:

https://www.thefa.com/news/2020/aug/19/updated-guidelines-for-return-of-spectators-190820

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-on-phased-return-of-sport-and-recreation/return-to-recreational-team-sport-framework

The club wishes to place on record its thanks to all supporters who attended these matches and complied with both the guidance issued and the directions of our stewarding team when in the stadium.

City of Liverpool FC fully, and without equivocation, supports the introduction of stronger local measures to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. As such, following the introduction of additional Tier 3 restrictions in the Liverpool City Region from Wednesday 14th October, the club has sought guidance from local public health officials regarding the organisation of this match. In response, Sefton MBC has advised the club as follows:

“The Council’s previous advice remains:

‘From 22 September and for all areas affected, we advise that you should not attend amateur or professional sporting events as a spectator in the areas affected. If you do attend, you must remain socially distanced and in groups of no more than 6’

We note that you will have all indoor facilities closed and that you will ensure that the “rule of six” is maintained.”

Accordingly, the club has decided that this match will take place under Stage 2 FA and DCMS guidance, with stadium capacity capped at 400 spectators.

Experience of three prior home fixtures to date indicates that this would offer spectators a safe environment and, with attendance restricted to approximately 20% of the stadium’s full capacity, social distancing can be observed. This option also actively prevents most of our supporters from attending the fixture.

In practical terms, supporters attending this match will once again be required to co-operate with the club in the implementation of our measures to ensure a safe environment for all in attendance:

  • Do not attend if you have any Covid-19 symptoms
  • There will be temperature checking prior to entry
  • The hand sanitiser provided must be used upon entry to the stadium and upon passing the barriers before and after the decking area in front of the clubhouse
  • Face coverings are compulsory
  • To protect our gatehouse volunteers, entry will be by pre-paid e-ticket only
  • There will be a one-way system in place, see plan attached
  • To maintain social distancing, terracing at each end of the stadium will be compartmentalised to hold no more than 6 spectators per designated area, as directed by the match stewards
  • Follow the signage and co-operate with stewards at all times
  • Comply with social distancing guidance at all times
  • Observe queueing systems for all facilities and follow signage
  • Keep designated passing areas around the pitch perimeter fence clear
  • The right to refuse admission sits with City of Liverpool FC

Any supporters who feel that they cannot comply with these reasonable, and necessary, regulations are welcome to not attend matches until “normality” returns.

The clubhouse will be closed for this fixture.

Please note that all areas outside of the clubhouse are under the jurisdiction of City of Liverpool FC for the duration of our home matches. As such, all supporters are requested to comply with the directions given by the club’s stewarding team.

This advice may be subject to change at short notice should further definitive public health guidance be made available to the club. Please follow the club’s social media channels for the latest updates.
